The Verizon system is written in VB6.0 with SQL Server 7.0 as the back end. A few projects: split the Verizon database into two separate databases, one for Work-In-Progress and one containing historical data. VB run DTS Packages synchronize the two. Rewrote a complex application containing table driven business rules as a COM component. We produced the card carriers/mailers, custom laser letters and just starting to print checks and statements. The IS department is performing data processing for customers, getting their raw data to the embossing machines/printers. Coupons and legal notices containing dates can impose very strict turn times. Development tools were VB 6.0, Access and COBOL.
§        As team leader I was responsible for distributing maintenance requests to team members and insuring that billable time is accounted for.
§        I implemented our first in-house Insurance Check/EOB application and developed our first in-house Royalty Check/Statement application.
§        Developed and Maintained online lookup systems for customers and internal users.
§        Developed custom data processing systems for new plastic card customers as well as maintain and support existing plastic card customers.

MMI Products is the holding company for Merchant Metals and Meadow Steel. These companies manufacture chain link fence and steel construction supplies (re-bar and concrete molds are two). I was employed by the holding company to maintain and improve a single system for both subsidiaries. Their systems consisted of order entry, inventory modules with daily transmissions to the central office. While there we added a purchase order module and support for the corporate office’s EDI/VMI efforts, including bar coding.
§      Controlled the lifecycle of an in-house order-entry, inventory, and P.O. system, including the deployment of new versions to 60 locations nationwide.
§      Maintained the communication scripts and import/export programs for transmitting data to/from the corporate office’s accounting system.
§      Added support for EDI/VMI transactions for Purchase Orders, Advance Ship Notices and Invoices to/from our field offices and our central system.

Programmer Analyst

The Farm Credit Bank of Texas is not a regular bank with checking accounts, savings accounts and credit cards. It provides credit to farmers and ranchers. I worked mostly on the short term loan side of the business where the systems were on standalone PCs or Laptops and were written in MS COBOL. The long term loan system was on an AS400 and written in RPG III.
§      Developed a credit analysis/loan application system for affiliated co-ops to assist with short term loan approvals.
§      Developed an interface between the bank’s long term loan system and a third party financial forecasting/planning package.

Austin RTC, Inc.
Austin, TX
Systems Engineer

Austin RTC, Inc. was a small NCR VAR with a niche, it provided semi-custom systems to fabricating companies in the window covering industry. The system’s strength was in its order entry module and production module which were tailored very nicely for the industry. It was also a complete system with Inventory, A/R, A/P, G/L and Payroll as well. Right out of college I was responsible for traveling to a new client’s site and setting up the hardware, training the users, returning to the office with a lists of programming requests and delivering those requests. I had my own group of customers to take care of and developed excellent rapport with them. This system was written in RM COBOL and ran under ATT UNIX.
§      Installed hardware and provided training and phone support for basic system administration duties on NCR towers.
§      Worked directly with customers from the initial installation through providing modifications to each customer’s system.
§     Provided customers with price quotes for requests and reported billable time to our accounting department.
